As the world reacts to the death of Michael Jackson, the masses are still waiting with bated breath for a statement from one the King of Pop’s least iconic fans: Howard Stern Show staff member High Pitch Mike. High Pitch Mike gained on-air notoriety last October on The Howard Stern Show after announcing that he had attended a gathering in Times Square to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of “Thriller”. High Pitch Mike and other Michael Jackson fans converged in an attempt to break the record for the largest group of people performing the Thriller dance at the same time. High Pitch Mike became an even more visible part of the Howard Stern Show when he announced that he was gay live on the air at The Howard Stern Show two months later. Most Howard Stern Show listeners found the announcements to be redundant.
High Pitch Mike also recently unveiled plans to travel to London in July to see Michael Jackson perform in concert. High Pitch Mike was quoted by Howard 100 News by saying that listening to Michael Jackson was “like instant childhood.”
So how will the raspy-throated, openly gay, smooth criminal cope with Michael Jackson’s death? The cross-section of Howard Stern Show and Michael Jackson fans will have to wait until the show comes back live on Monday to take a cue from High Pitch Mike on just what they should be feeling. In the meantime, it’s going to take a lot of Brian McKnight and anal lube to cure these blues. For High Pitch Mike, and those like him, the Thriller is gone.
